3/29/2015 0 Comments Fitness goalsIn the last few months since I started this blog, my enthusiasm for weight loss has ebbed and flowed, and culminated in a recent weight gain. I have no clue how much Since I don't own a scale. But I know I can't fit into my fat pants. I have one pair of jeans that I can fit in comfortably, one that's a squeeze and makes a big muffin top, and the rest aren't even an option. I'm too fat for my maternity jeans. That's crazy! Something's gotta change!! So, I'll be trying to focus on it more, which means writing about it more. I bought a step-aerobics step. I looked up videos and have been having a hard time finding any as fun and modern as Zumba videos. That's my fav thing to do. Yup yup. Here's my favorite Zumba videos: But to be honest, I should just do one damn thing a day. Easy or hard, planned or jumbled. Even a few crunches would be better than nothing.

3/28/2015 0 Comments Little girls dress with smockingCruzing my local craigslist and I come across an add looking for someone to finish a sewing project for hire. I reply and set up a meet to learn more. Well, this mans mother has recently passed. He's been going through her belongings and came across a half finished little girls dress. He has the idea that it would be a brilliant gift for his sister who has a daughter, rather than leave it unfinished. Sort of like one last present from grandma, from beyond the grave. It's actually a sweet story, it's almost enough to get past the ugly fabric. Lol Well, I had never worked with smocking before, and there were no instructions, and some of the pieces were missing. So beyond this being a cheery little project, it transforms into more of a brain game. Cue mortal combat music and narration: SEAMSTRESS CHALLENGE So here's what I get... There's a yoke front cut, a random piece with smocking, a skirt back cut, two sleeves, and a yoke back. There's no collar, no indication of how it's going to be pulled over a head, and no clear indication of where the smocking goes and why it's so much shorter than the front yoke. So I search the Internet for examples. Sometimes the smocking is found in the top yoke. Sometimes it's below the yoke in a band, and sometimes there are additional pieces on the sides where it attaches to the arms. The band below the yoke from armsye to armsye is the most popular, but it seemed too short. I asked around and my cousin said she thought I could cut the gathering stitches (which I was hesitant to do). BUT IT WORKED! Well, it had to be stretched and ironed, since it was a bit springy. I decided to use a lining fabric to use as a guide, and to keep the lumpy smocking from being itchy. And to save you from the rest of the brain storming and sewing issues, I finally got it finished. I promised a week and took a month and a half. But most of that was procrastinating. It was quite the teaser, and I wish I had handled some of the issues differently, but it's done and he was happy. So I should be content. 3/28/2015 0 Comments Got new glassesIt's so funny how much glasses can change the look of my whole face. It's like looking at a different person. The clear plastic really makes all my features stand out. I hate how much it emphasizes how blonde my eyelashes are. I get so self conscious about that, and thinking my eyes look tiny. Oh, the silly things we focus on. Lol. In any case, I'm finding myself using a lot more mascara than I used to. 3/28/2015 0 Comments The sims freeplayIt's been on my mind a lot lately. Spending lots of time harvesting onions and sending sims to work. I'm on the two story challenge. 3/18/2015 0 Comments Dr Who party: gift box TardisIf you could find a perfectly rectangle box, you could just gussy it right on up to make a tardis, but I had to make my own. They came out a little wonky, but it's just a novelty to pass out to a kid who's gonna toss it. I weighed everything down with books until dry. Then I folded the boxes up to paint them. I did several layers of paint to give it a dimensional look, using light blue, royal blue, and purple. Once they were dry I laid them flat again. I copied the parts of the Tardis I wanted to print and paste, and made enough "police box" strips to cover all four sides of each box. Using a sharpie, I roughly drew boxes and lines for details on the door (3 instead of 4 so I didn't have to scrunch). Once I glued all the strips and posters and windows on, I weighed it down with books again until dry. Then I glued and taped the bottom flap in so it would be stable. I doubt anyone needs the step by step, so I'm not really putting much thought into what I've written. BUT AREN'T THEY PRETTY?? 💓😇😍😘💗 They turned out better than I would have guessed. We stuffed them with stickers, rubber balls, laser fingers, glow sticks. I made a little "journal of impossible things" for each one, which was totally under appreciated. Lol 3/16/2015 0 Comments Interesting factoidOmg, you guys! Cruzing my Facebook feed to find this little gem. Here's the URL: http://m.mentalfloss.com/article.php?id=55934 (Weebly still gives me trouble when trying to link a word, so pardon my primitive copy/paste) I first became aware of the phrase while reading Lord of the Rings. There's a chapter with the title and I had to look it up. I was in my BFA year at the time, and in an analytical mode. I immediately thought "this is the perfect name for a thrift shop." Of course, I have beautiful dreams of owning a thrift shop one day. It's one of a hundred great ideas that will never come to fruition (maybe). Someday (maybe) I'll write them all out and at least let them exist somewhere outside of my own imagination. 3/10/2015 0 Comments Baby advice I agree with! This bitch has got it going on! LOVE this post! I agree with it all!!!!! http://modgblog.com/2011/08/23/5-steps-to-get-your-baby-to-nap-for-a-long-freaking-time-every-day-of-your-life/ I also liked this one: http://alphamom.com/parenting/baby/toddler-napping-problems/ If you can't tell, I'm working on improving nap times. I have taken on a boarder during the day. A precious little 14 month old who wants to be rocked to sleep while eating a bottle. And when I do get her in the crib, she sleeps 45-69 min. I then have the option of letting her sleep up to another hour in my arms. Where as this may work for this only-child at home, when she's at my place she's just one of three. And not even the cutest one (but a mother should be biased for her own children). I feel like I'm being held hostage, between being utilized as her personal portable arm hammock, or suffer the wrath of 60 minutes of shrieking followed by horrible behavior the rest of the day. I know what has to happen. I have to pick a routine and stick with it. But I have to narrow down what exactly will work best, then be strong enough to replicate the pattern daily. One downside is her parents are very tuned in to her cry and don't want her to fuss, ever. I don't think they're sticking with a schedule at bedtime it on the weekends. I LOVE SCHEDULES FOR LITTLE ONES (1 and up). I think it makes them confident and secure. 3/9/2015 0 Comments Not just for carsMy son likes to test what will slide down this ramp. He's put blocks, Legos, spoons, crackers, socks, coins... Basically anything you can think of that a toddler could get his hands on and test. This is what I get for keeping the potatoes on a decorative cart in arms reach of a small child. Using some red fleece, white pom-poms and hot glue, I made customized Santa hats for everything in my house I could think of. I started out wanting to put hats on the little soldier decorations that hang on the wall above our TV, but after an extra strong piña colada that my husband made me, it turned into Santa hats for everyone! (Soldier dudes not pictured).it was a quick slap dash chip and glue project. Easy easy, if you're not too bothered with hot glue burns (those suckers are hard to hold on. Plus alcohol). 3/9/2015 0 Comments Dalek costumeThis is how the Dalek costume turned out. It was surprisingly difficult to get a picture of. |
