2/10/2015 0 Comments Dr who party: wall art fezThe inspiration for this came from this with the discovery that a few of my frames had their glass broken in the move. Now, I think that you can never have too many frames, and despite having a full box of non broken frames remaining, I felt it had to be put to use. (My husband would disagree). So for your viewing and nerding pleasure, I present to you one of my only original ideas, the three dimensional fez wall art: How gorgeous. How dashing. Can't you just picture having one of your own? You may "ooo" and "ahhh" now. So without further ado, and to the best of my ability, I shall attempt to describe how you can create your own lovely little thing. I started with a square of muslin, or any fabric will do. I used a trapezoid of red felt and two thin elongated half circle type pieces. I also had red regular thread. And gold embroidery floss for the tassel. You'd also need an oz of batting or other filling. From here on out I'll attempt the instructions in a doodle. Good luck.

2/10/2015 0 Comments Dr Who party: doodle artOriginals Followed by My versions I had fun re copying whoevers artwork. Thank you, mystery people. It was nice to get some doodles in. P.s. I'm not sure how I managed to get blurry pictures, but it doesn't seem worth going back and fixing. You get the gist of it. (I can even take them out of the frames and get proper pictures if anyone cares. I'll assume not). 12/25/2014 0 Comments Star Trek Quiet Book. Complete!!I got this idea from another blog. I personalized it, and finally got it finished. I learned a few things 1) I hate hand stitching 2) hot glue is awesome 3) permanent marker isn't good for writing on felt 4) quiet books shouldn't be double sided 12/25/2014 0 Comments Dr who bikeThe bike has several flaws, but they're not noticeable unless I point them out. My daughter seems to like it, so I'm happy! 12/7/2014 0 Comments Christmas fabric garlandI started working on this a while back. It ended up going through several iterations before landing on this. I could give you a list of what didn't ended up working. But it turned out pretty nice. All the fabric edges are raw. The fabric was more flexible left alone, and I figure I'm not washing it anyways. I took a 2 inch strip of fleece and cut slits in it every 1 inch or so, then pulled the fabric through. I cut varying lengths and widths. I used twist ties to join fabrics on the back side, but I probably could have stitched them together. Then I added my fleece roses and "scarf" strips with hot glue. I also had a square of crochet that I sewed into tubes and weaved in. I think it turned out pretty nice. Like an ugly sweater, happy but tidy, sweet crafty Christmas. I wish I had ornaments to match. *Star Trek quiet book* I saw this on Pinterest: http://juliegillrie.blogspot.de/2011/09/my-star-trek-quiet-book.html?m=1 And it's an adorable little project! I was excited to make one for my own little one. But I had a few issues. 1) turns out, I hate embroidering things. And hand stitching? That's for the birds. 2) I didn't want to mix original series and TNG. 3) I wanted to see if I could include more exploratory tactile things. So I used this as a base and made a few changes. My plan was to stitch all the parts together, but if I had to do that this project would already be in the trash. Against my perfectionism, I decided to glue. And not only that but the fastest glue I know, HOT glue! I can zip through this thing in no time! It adds bulk though. And it has the potential to melt things or glob up or become less flexible. I'm trying to spread it thin though. It's hopefully secure enough to withstand a toddler. 12/4/2014 0 Comments A bike projectAnother gift on the cheap, is hopefully a bike makeover for my oldest. She asked for a bike for a while before I got her a 'temporary' one from a yard sale. The guy wanted $10 but I pretended I only had $8. It's not much to look at but she was greatful. Sometimes I feel bad for giving her the short straw all the time, but I try to atone by allowing other privladges like very few limits on tv and phone. (Partly because I don't want to seem like a hypocrite when I zombie out on mine). Anywho. We had discussed a makeover before, but I'm guessing she assumes the project has been given up on with as many times as I've postponed it. A Google image search turned up this bike for inspiration: Here's the before. Wish me luck! Updates to follow! 12/4/2014 0 Comments Leaf garlandI wanted to make something for fall, without spending money. I had some jewelry wire and shiny tempera paint, so I collected some fallen leaves and pine cones. I laced the leaves together on the wire and painted a few to add shimmer. This project had a few major flaws. 1) I waited too long to collect leaves and they were a bit too dead/ crunched up 2) I couldn't be patient enough to fully paint one side of each leaf, which was my original goal. 3) I wasn't patient enough to lace the leaves so they faced forward. I basically took wire, and poked it once through each leaf and strung them up on my mantle. My daughter politely said it looked "helter skelter" but it was polite for "that looks like some trash, strung across the mantle." I made my oldest (she offered) paint the pine cones, and I made wire hoops by wrapping wire around the stems. She only painted one side (top) which I believe was out of laziness (like mother, like daughter?). Those turned out cute. 12/4/2014 0 Comments Disney princessThis lady is amazingly cool. I wish I was this patient with sewing. If I had better focus and didn't prefer tv so much, maybe. Lol! |
